SmartEvent GUI crashes with "Check Point SmartEvent Client experienced a serious problem and must close immediately..." error when connecting to SmartEvent Server for the first time after upgrade to R77.10
Symptoms
  • When trying to connect with SmartEvent GUI to SmartEvent Server for the first time after upgrade to R77.10, a Windows error appears:

"Check Point SmartEvent Client experienced a serious problem and must close immediately..."
  • After upgrade, output of the following command on SmartEvent Server returns at least one result:

    [Expert@HostName]# grep ':user_defined \(true\)' $FWDIR/conf/sem_detection_policies.C
Cause

The upgrade deletes the objects, but does not remove user defined 'eventia_product_object' references to deleted objects. This causes a corruption in the $FWDIR/conf/sem_detection_policies.C file.
