Virtual Memory consumption on Security Gateway increases when CPU is under high load Technical Level
Symptoms
  • SmartView Monitor shows that "Active Virtual Memory" consumption increases when Security Gateway is under high load (output of 'top' command on Security Gateway shows that CPU core(s) are at 100% load).

  • Output of 'slabtop' command on Security Gateway shows that the memory is consumed by "filp".

  • SmartView Monitor shows that "Active Virtual Memory" consumption decreases to usual levels when Security Gateway is not under high load anymore.

Cause

For Gateway environments where Dynamic Dispatching is not enabled/supported.

When the CPU consumption is constantly high, there are no available resources to release used Virtual Memory that is no longer needed. As Virtual Memory is constantly needed, the used value keeps increasing.

Once the CPU consumption is reduced, the system is able to release all the allocated Virtual Memory, and the used value returns to usual levels.
