Changes in URL Filtering categorization starting from February 5th, 2014 Technical Level
Solution

This article is intended to inform customers of several changes in URL Filtering categorization:

  • "File Storage and Sharing" category will be used to categorize file sharing sites, for public or private sharing of data or space in a network.
    For example: rapidshare.com, hotfile.com.

These sites are currently categorized as "Computers / Internet".

  • "Lifestyle" will be added as a new category. It will be used to categorize sites that provide information about lifestyle. This includes, but is not limited to hobbies, leisure activities, community involvement and other subjects that comprise the way of life.

The changes will take effect starting from Wednesday, February 5th, 2014.

As a result of these changes, URLs are going to be re-categorized. Check Point strongly recommends you check your URL Filtering policy and adjust it accordingly:

  1. Connect with SmartDashboard to Security Management Server / Domain Management Server.

  2. Go to 'Application & URL Filtering' tab.

  3. In the left pane, click 'Policy'.

  4. Adjust the rules, if necessary.

  5. Save the changes: go to 'File' menu and click 'Save'.

  6. Install the policy onto all relevant Security Gateways / Clusters.

Note: This change in URL Filtering categorization will not affect Legacy URL Filtering.
