Traffic that relies on BGP does not pass
Symptoms
  • Traffic that relies on BGP does not pass.

  • Output of Clish command 'show bgp peers' shows that the BGP peers would not reach the 'Established' state.

  • BGP peers were configured with 'local-address' option (either in Clish, or in Gaia Portal).

  • Traffic capture on BGP peers shows that BGP packets are sent out with source IP address of the outgoing interface instead of the IP address configured with 'local-address' option.
Cause

The IP address configured with 'local-address' option is not bound to the socket.

As a result, BGP packets are sent out with source IP address of the outgoing interface, which causes BGP peers to ignore these packets because another IP address is expected (per configuration).
