Gaia to Gaia upgrade on IP Appliances with automatic Snapshot fails - system loads with previous version
Symptoms
  • Upgrade to R77 succeeds, but system loads with original version if trying to perform pre-upgrade snapshot during the upgrade.
Cause

Boot loader on IP appliance was not updated properly with the snapshot's configuration.


Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included in:

Note: This issue will not occur when upgrading from R77 to higher versions (when released).

Check Point recommends to always upgrade to the most recent version.

 

For versions lower than R77, create snapshot before upgrading to R77 using 'Image Management' mechanism. During the upgrade, enter 'no' when asked about snapshot creation.

If upgraded to R77 already, and machine booted with the previous version, then follow these steps:

  1. Edit the '/boot/lvmrootpart' file in Vi editor:

    [Expert@HostName]# vi /boot/lvmrootpart

  2. Add the following lines to the file:

    root=/dev/mapper/vg_splat-lv_current
    imgdir=/boot

  3. Reboot the machine.
