"Unable to open '/dev/fw6vX': No such file or directory" error in /var/log/messages and in $FWDIR/log/fwd.elg Technical Level
Symptoms
  • "Unable to open '/dev/fw6vX': No such file or directory" error appears repeatedly in /var/log/messages file and in $FWDIR/log/fwd.elg file.

    Example:
    Unable to open '/dev/fw6v2': No such file or directory
    Unable to open '/dev/fw6v3': No such file or directory
    Unable to open '/dev/fw6v4': No such file or directory
    
  • "modprobe: FATAL: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.18-92cp/kernel/net/ipv6/ipv6.ko': No such file or directory" error might also appear in /var/log/messages file.

  • Output of 'fw fetchlocal -d $FWDIR/state/__tmp/FW1/' command shows these errors:

    • Unable to open '/dev/fw6vX': No such file or directory
    • Could not put license in running module: No such file or directory
    • Failed to Load Security Policy: No such file or directory
    • Fetching Security Policy Failed
Cause

Issue in iteration logic for CoreXL FW IPv4 instances and CoreXL FW IPv6 instances when IPv6 is enabled on the Security Gateway.
