'mds_restore' operation fails on Multi-Domain Security Management Server R75.40 Technical Level
Symptoms
  • 'mds_restore' operation fails on Multi-Domain Security Management Server R75.40.

  • The size of '$MDSDIR/scripts/mds_restore' script is 0 bytes.
Cause

The '$MDSDIR/scripts/mds_restore' script is corrupted.

Solution

Follow these steps on R75.40 Multi-Domain Security Management Server:

  1. Download the improved 'mds_restore' script from here ('Check_Point_R75.40_MD_Restore_Tool.csh').

  2. Transfer the improved script ('Check_Point_R75.40_MD_Restore_Tool.csh') to the Multi-Domain Security Management Server.

  3. Delete the current script:

    [Expert@HostName]# rm -i  $MDSDIR/scripts/mds_restore

  4. Copy the improved script to the relevant directory:

    [Expert@HostName]# cp -v  /path_to/Check_Point_R75.40_MD_Restore_Tool.csh  $MDSDIR/scripts/mds_restore

  5. Just in case, convert the script from DOS to UNIX format:

    [Expert@HostName]# dos2unix  $MDSDIR/scripts/mds_restore

  6. Assign the required permissions:

    [Expert@HostName]# chmod -v  u=rwx,g=rwx  $MDSDIR/scripts/mds_restore

  7. Assign the required ownership:

    [Expert@HostName]# chown -v  admin:bin  $MDSDIR/scripts/mds_restore

Note: Restart of MDS is not required.

The script works as follows:

  1. Expands all the files inside the file 'ddmmmyyyy-hhmmss.mdsbk.tgz'
  2. Restores the files of the MDS from the file 'mds_backup_opt.tgz' in the directory /opt
  3. Restores the files of the MDS from the file 'mds_backup_varopt.tgz' in the directory /var/opt
  4. Restores the files of the MDS from the file 'mds_backup_supkgs.tgz' in the directory /var/opt
  5. Restores the files of the MDS of the compatability packages
  6. Deletes intermediate tar files
