Configuring /etc/hosts on cluster members
Symptoms
  • Various problems in communication between cluster members and between cluster members and the Security Management Server.
Cause

Check Point software strongly relies on /etc/hosts file.

Communication between cluster members, and between cluster members and the Security Management Server is based on SIC authentication, which involves CPD daemon, which in turn relies on /etc/hosts file.

If CPD daemon on cluster members is not able to authenticate the peer cluster members / Security Management Server, then any communication between cluster members, and between cluster members and the Security Management Server will fail (either occasionally, or permanently).
