SecureXL SIM Affinity settings do not affect interfaces that use BNX2 driver Technical Level
Symptoms
  • SecureXL SIM Affinity settings do not affect interfaces that use BNX2 driver :

    1. Running 'sim affinity -s' command and assigning the NICs to specific CPU cores

    2. Output of 'sim affinity -l' command shows that NICs were assigned to specific CPU cores

    3. However, output of 'watch -d -n 1 cat /proc/interrupts' shows that interfaces that use bnx2 driver are still sending interrupts to CPU0
Cause

Configuring IRQ SMP affinity (feature, which is used by SecureXL SIM Affinity) has no effect on some devices that use Message Signalled Interrupts (MSI) with no MSI per-vector masking capability.

Examples of such devices include Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet devices that use the BNX2 driver.
