Running Chkdsk on Pointsec PC / FDE for Windows encrypted machines Technical Level
  • When running chkdsk (e.g chkdsk /r) on an FDE/Pointsec for PC encrypted volume, chkdsk will report "Windows replaced bad clusters in file name prot_ins.sys" and the file will be marked as bad sectors on the disk.

The prot_ins.sys file is protected by the FDE filter driver and will be reported as bad back to Windows (chkdsk in this case) and it will be marked as bad by Windows.
