How to restrict Users via config.ini from uninstalling Protector client Technical Level
Solution
Various installation options can be configured in the config.ini file, located on the root folder of the client installation. From config.ini, it is possible to specify who is allowed to uninstall the client software.

Note: The config.ini file can be opened and edited using any text editor or notepad.exe.

If, for example, you want to allow the domain administrators and the DNadministrator on the Reflex domain to uninstall the client, configure as follows.

In the Uninstall section, set:

  • AllowedUsers=%COMPUTER%\Administrator,%DOMAIN%\Administrator

  • AllowedGroups=%DOMAIN%\Administrators,%DOMAIN%\domain admins,REFLEX\administrators

For example:

[Uninstall]

AllowedUsers=Reflex\Dnadministrator
AllowedGroups=Reflex\Domain administrators

This would allow the domain administrators and the DNadministrator on the Reflex domain to uninstall the client. If the users are not part of these groups, then they will not be able to uninstall the Pointsec Protector client.

This will work with 4.8x, 4.9x, R70, and R71 series.

For more detailed information, refer to Pointsec Protector Release 4.81 Administrator's Guide.
