Azure Gateway freezes / crashes during Azure server maintenance Technical Level
Symptoms
  • Azure Gateway freezes or crashes with no core file created.
  • The following appears in /var/log/messages:
     
    Apr 19 15:39:18 2020 va81intranet000000 kernel: hv_netvsc  eth0: Data path switched from VF: enP1p0s2
    Apr 19 15:39:18 2020 va81intranet000000 kernel: hv_netvsc  eth0: VF unregistering: enP1p0s2
    
  • The following might also appear in /var/log/messages:
    Apr 19 15:43:43 2020 va81intranet000000 kernel: mlx4_core: Initializing 0002:00:02.0
    Apr 19 15:43:43 2020 va81intranet000000 kernel: mlx4_core 0002:00:02.0: Detected virtual function - running in slave mode
    

Cause
As part of the maintenance on the Azure server, virtual functions (VFs) are removed and restored (interfaces enP1s02 and enp2s02).

Rarely, the VM might crash or freeze due to this action.


Solution
This problem was fixed. The fix is included in:
For other versions, Contact Check Point Support to get a Hotfix for this issue. A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing the Hotfix. For faster resolution and verification please collect CPinfo files from the Security Management and Security Gateways involved in the case.

This solution has been verified for the specific scenario, described by the combination of Product, Version and Symptoms. It may not work in other scenarios.
