Multi-Queue and Dynamic Split cannot add more than 2 CoreXL SNDs on 6500 appliance Technical Level
Symptoms
  • Dynamic Split cannot add more than 2 CoreXL SNDs on 6500 appliance.
  • Dynamic Split is not balancing between CoreXL_SNDs and CoreXL_FWs. No new CoreXL SNDs are added above the default CoreXL SND.
Cause

Multi-Queue and Dynamic Split limits the number of allowed CoreXL SNDs to the smallest RSS limit available by the network interfaces on the machine.

Although the on-board interfaces on 6500 appliances utilizes the igb driver, which supports up to 4 RX queues, the I211 controller on the on-board interfaces supports only up to 2 RX queues.

Thus, when a user enables Multi-Queue or Dynamic Split and uses an on-board network interface, the number of CoreXL SNDs will be limited to 2.
