"Failed during MDS setup" error during Multi-Domain Management in-place upgrade
Symptoms
  • Errors during Multi-Domain Management in-place upgrade:
    Reason of failure: Failed during MDS setup.
    Failed to execute: . /opt/CPshared/5.0/tmp/.CPprofile.sh >/dev/null 2>&1 ;
    export MDS_SYSTEM=/mnt/fcd/sysimg/CPwrapper/linux/p1_install/system; export UPGRADE_CONTEXT=cpuse; export CPUSE_SHOW_PROGRESS_ID=Check_Point_R80.30_T200_Fresh_Install_and_Upgrade_Security_Management.tgz; /mnt/fcd//sysimg/CPwrapper/linux/p1_install/system/install//export_mds.sh -b -t


  • Import log shows:

    Going to create directory '/opt/CPmds-R80/tmp/migrate/'
    WRN: Failed to create directory
    :

Cause

The export_mds.sh failed to create the /opt/CPmds-R80/tmp/migrate directory. This can happen due to several reasons: 

  1. Lack of disk space

  2. Permissions or ownership to path leading to the migrate folder was changed to something other than admin:root or admin:config

  3. A symbolic link was created in replacement of the folder and is causing a conflict:
