Symptoms

Cause

In VSX versions R80.40 and lower, DNS configuration is global and automatically applies to all Virtual Systems.

Example:

VSX:0> set virtual system 1
Context is set to vsid 1
VSX:1>
VSX:1> set dns primary 8.8.8.8
VSX:1>
VSX:1> show dns

DNS setup
Name                 Value

Domain
DNS server           8.8.8.8
VSX:1>
VSX:1> set virtual system 2
Context is set to vsid 2
VSX:2>
VSX:2> show dns

DNS setup
Name                 Value

Domain
DNS server           8.8.8.8
VSX:2>

Solution

No fix is required; the system is functioning as designed.

In VSX versions R81 and higher, you can configure DNS servers for each Virtual System. See the VSX R81 Administration Guide for your version.
