"Error: the operation timeout" message when trying to connect to SmartConsole Technical Level
Symptoms
  • "Error: the operation timeout" message when trying to connect to SmartConsole.
  • High CPU utilization by the CPM process.
  • Following logs are found in the fwm.elg file:
    [FWM PID]@MGMT[DATE TIME] - FWM mainloop wasn't available for 1016 seconds. This may cause UI / Server slow down
    [FWM PID]@MGMT[DATE TIME] Time consuming warning: fwm command [calculate-internal-network] took 1006 sec
Cause

The "calculate-internal-network" command is a part of the FWM process that creates a large number of get objects.  In rare cases, this can result in extremely high CPU utilization. 

This will cause the CPM process to become unresponsive, and then result in a failure of the CPM process and the FWM process.
