Uninstall of Endpoint Security VPN client causes network adapters not to function Technical Level
  • Following uninstall of Endpoint Security VPN Client, network adapters on the machine are not functioning.
  • There is no output when running ipconfig on command line.
  • Reinstallation of the driver resolves the issue.

Kaspersky (KES self-defense) is installed on the machine.

KES self-defense does not allow any third-party apps (in this case, the Endpoint Security VPN Client) to modify certain critical system settings that could prevent KES operability.

In this case, it blocks the following operations:

Application: VsDrInst.exe
Action: Changing key value
Object: hkey_local_machine\SYSTEM\CONTROLSET001\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0005\LINKAGE\ROOTDEVICE

Application: vna_install64.exe
Action: Changing key value
Object: hkey_local_machine\SYSTEM\CONTROLSET001\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0007\LINKAGE\FILTERLIST

Therefore VPN uninstaller cannot properly unregister filters for network device, causing them not to function.
