License is not attached to all members of vSEC for NSX cluster Technical Level
Symptoms
  • License is not attached to all members of vSEC for NSX cluster.

  • Attaching the license to the cluster with vsec_config utility appears successful.

  • SmartUpdate or output of 'cplic print' command on the vSEC for NSX cluster members reveals that one or more cluster member may be missing a license.

  • $FWDIR/conf/vSEC_lic.C file on the vSEC Controller shows:

[ PID ...]@HostName[Date Time] LicenseOperations::GenerateAndRunDbEditScript - Failed to run db edit with script file /tmp/fileXXX
    ... ...
[ PID ...]@HostName[Date Time] VerifyLicense - Failure in attaching license to cluster <Name_of_Cluster_Object>
  • Output of the following command on the vSEC Controller shows multiple UID's for the same license:

    [Expert@HostName:0]# echo -e "print_table_to_file licenses licenses_data.C\nquit\n" | dbedit -local
Cause

Multiple instances of the same license string exist in the Security Management Server database.
All these instances have a unique UID.

The license installation process for vSEC for NSX that is outlined in the Administration Guide, was not strictly followed, which caused this rare situation.
