Mobile Access Web Form SSO login fails if the password contains special characters Technical Level
Symptoms
  • Mobile Access Web Form SSO login fails if the password contains special characters (e.g., exclamation sign "!", asterisk "*", plus "+", minus "-", etc.).

  • Users are able to authenticate to Web Applications by manually entering their credentials in the login page.

  • Mobile Access Web Form SSO login fails after upgrading R77.30 gateway to one of the following Jumbo takes - 161,162,164,165,171,172,184,185,189.

Cause

When using Web Form SSO, passwords that contain special characters are URL-encoded twice - first, the special character is encoded as "%XX", and then the percent "%" character is also encoded as "%25", which produces the "%25XX".

Examples:

  • password "test!" instead of being encoded once to "test%21" is encoded again to "test%2521" before being sent to the server
  • password "test*" instead of being encoded once to "test%2A" is encoded again to "test%252A" before being sent to the server
