Application Control and URL Filtering blades do not work when Security Gateway is configured as HTTP/HTTPS Proxy in Non Transparent mode
Symptoms
  • Application Control and URL Filtering blades do not work when Security Gateway is configured as HTTP/HTTPS Proxy in Non Transparent mode:

    • Application Control and URL Filtering rules are not enforced for HTTP and HTTPS traffic
(for example: a Block rule does not block the relevant traffic).

    • There are no logs from the Application Control and URL Filtering blades.

  • Changing the Proxy Mode from Non Transparent to Transparent in Security Gateway object and installing the policy resolves the issue.

Cause

In SmartDashboard, the setting "Enable HTTP inspection on non standard ports for the Application Control & URL Filtering Blades" is disabled (go to Application & URL Filtering tab - in the left tree, expand the Advanced - click on HTTP Inspection).

Traffic on TCP port 8080 s considered as non-standard port for Application Control and URL Filtering blades.
Therefore, when Security Gateway is configured as HTTP/HTTPS Proxy in Non Transparent mode, the above setting must be enabled (by default, it is enabled).
