SNMP Query for OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.5.6 (haState) returns "down" for "Backup" Virtual System in VSLS cluster Technical Level
Symptoms
  • SNMP Query for OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.5.6 (.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.checkpoint.products.ha.haState) returns "down" for "Backup" Virtual Systems in VSLS cluster:

    haState.0 = STRING: down
  • SNMP Query for OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.5.13 (.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.checkpoint.products.ha.haProblemTable) returns status "problem" for pnote "Synchronization":

    haProblemName.1.0 = STRING: Synchronization
    haProblemStatus.1.0 = STRING: problem
  • Output of "fw ctl pstat" command on "Backup" VSLS cluster member shows "Sync: off".

  • Output of "cphaprob state" command shows correct expected output on all VSLS cluster members - some Virtual Systems are "Active", some Virtual Systems are "Standby", and some Virtual Systems are "Backup".

  • Output of "cphaprob -ia list" command shows that status of pnote "Synchronization" is "problem".

Cause

By design, "Backup" Virtual Systems / "Backup" cluster members in VSLS cluster do not perform State Synchronization. Therefore, they should never perform Full Sync. By design, if Full Sync was not completes successfully by the cluster member, the "Synchronization" pnote reports its status as "problem".

"Backup" state of a Virtual System / VSLS cluster member is implemented by reporting the status of "Synchronization" pnote as "problem".

When a Virtual System / VSLS cluster member goes from "Active" / "Standby" state to "Backup" state, it re-registers the "Synchronization" pnote with status "problem".
