OSPFv3 (over IPv6) inter area routes are not distributed to backbone area by Security Gateway on Gaia OS
Symptoms
  • In the following example topology, the OSPFv3 over IPv6 routes from "area X" are not seen on the OSPFv3 neighbor "Router 1":

    [No neighbors]---(area X)---eth2[GW on Gaia OS, IPv6, OSPFv3]eth1---(backbone area 0.0.0.0)---[Router 1, IPv6, OSPFv3]
  • If an OSPFv3 neighbor "Router 2" is added in "area X" (as ABR), then OSPFv3 over IPv6 routes from "area X" appear on the "Router 1" as expected:

    (backbone area 0.0.0.0)---[Router 2, IPv6, OSPFv3, ABR in "area X"]---(area X)---eth2[GW on Gaia OS, IPv6, OSPFv3]eth1---(backbone area 0.0.0.0)---[Router 1, IPv6, OSPFv3]
  • OSPFv2 over IPv4 in the same topology (without OSPFv3 neighbors in "area X") works as expected.

Cause

Router and Intra-Area-Prefix LSA (LS Type 0x2009) for OSPFv3 are not generated if the area has no links (OSPFv3 uses Intra-Area Prefix LSA (LS Type 0x2009) to advertise IPv6 prefixes that are associated with router itself and stub/transit network segment.)
