GateD daemon might crash when Security Gateway is a part of a large OSPF environment Technical Level
Symptoms
  • SmartView Tracker shows that cluster member is declared as "down":
    cluster_info: (ClusterXL) member N (<IP_ADDRESS>) is down (Problem Notification on member N (<IP_ADDRESS>) detected a problem (GATED).)

  • /var/log/messages file on Security Gateway / cluster member might show:

    snmpd[PID]: peer disconnected: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.4.3.1.4 
    snmpd[PID]: [smux_accept] accepted fd X from 127.0.0.1:PORT 
    snmpd[PID]: accepted smux peer: oid SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.4.3.1.4, descr SMUX GateD version ngc2.3 built Date Time
    
  • When running GateD daemon under OSPF Traces, these messages appear repeatedly in the OSPF Traces output file at the time of the crash:

    OSPF FLOOD: NGB <IP_ADDRESS> LIST NEXT RMX queue Vertex 
    OSPF QREF: RTR:<IP_ADDRESS> [<IP_ADDRESS>] ++ (-> 1) [add RMX buffer NGB <IP_ADDRESS>]
    
  • After enabling generation of core dump files per sk53363, core dump files for 'GateD' process were generated in the /var/log/dump/usermode/ directory.

    These core dump files contain the following stack:

    #11 0x... in gated_begin (argc=3, argv=0x...) at task.c
    #12 0x... in main (argc=3, argv=0x...) at task.c
    
Cause

GateD daemon might crash when OSPF contains a large number of vertices in the OSPF tree.
