How to export Internet Explorer favorites from virtualized (WebCheck) environment and import into real environment Technical Level

The procedure below describes how to export Internet Explorer favorites from virtualized (WebCheck) environment to real (non-virtualized) environment.

Follow these steps (divided into 2 section):

  1. To export the favorites from virtualized (WebCheck) environment:

    1. Open the virtualized (WebCheck) environment.

    2. Open the Internet Explorer browser.

    3. Right-click on an empty space anywhere on the toolbar - in the context menu, click on the 'Menu Bar' (it should be marked with "V") - a new toolbar should appear under the Address bar (File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help).

    4. Go to 'File' menu - click on 'Import and Export...'.

    5. The window 'How to you want to import or export your broswer settings?' opens - select 'Export to a file' option - click on 'Next' button.

    6. The window 'What would you like to export?' opens - select 'Export to file' option - click on 'Next' button.

    7. The window 'Select the folder that you want to export your favorites from' opens - click on the very top line 'Favorites' - click on 'Next' button.

    8. The window 'Where do you want to export your favorites?' opens - click on 'Browse...' button - type/paste the following exact path: %TEMP%\IswTmp\bookmark - click on 'Save' button - copy the absolute path that appears (e.g., D:\Temp\IswTmp\bookmark.htm) - click on 'Export' button.

    9. The window 'You have successfully exported these settings' opens - grren "V" should appear near the 'Favorites' - click on 'Finish' button.

    10. Close / minimize the virtualized (WebCheck) environment.

    11. In the real (non-virtualized) environment, open Windows Explorer (any file manager).

    12. Locate the exported 'Favorites' file - %TEMP%\IswTmp\bookmark.htm.

    13. Copy this bookmark.htm file to the desired location (e.g., user's "Documents" folder).


  2. To import the favorites into real (non-virtualized) environment:

    1. Open the Internet Explorer browser in the real environment.

    2. Right-click on an empty space anywhere on the toolbar - in the context menu, click on the 'Menu Bar' (it should be marked with "V") - a new toolbar should appear under the Address bar (File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help).

    3. Go to 'File' menu - click on 'Import and Export...'.

    4. The window 'How to you want to import or export your broswer settings?' opens - select 'Import from a file' option - click on 'Next' button.

    5. The window 'What would you like to import?' opens - select 'Favorites' option - click on 'Next' button.

    6. The window 'Where do you want to import your favorites from?' opens - click on 'Browse...' button - locate the exported bookmark.htm file - click on 'Open' button - the absolute path to the file appears - click on 'Next' button.

    7. The window 'Select a destination folder for your favorites' opens - select the desired folder - click on 'Import' button.

    8. The window 'You have successfully imported these settings' opens - grren "V" should appear near the 'Favorites' - click on 'Finish' button.
