SNMP functionality on Gaia machine breaks intermittently (stops answering SNMP Queries, stops sending SNMP Traps)
Symptoms
  • SNMP functionality on Gaia machine breaks intermittently (stops answering SNMP Queries, stops sending SNMP Traps).

  • /var/log/messages file shows that SNMPD process is being repeatedly restarted:
kernel: snmpd[PID] trap divide error rip:... rsp:... error:0
    pm[pm_PID]: Reaped: snmpd[PID]
pm[pm_PID]: Scheduled snmpd for +1 secs
    pm[pm_PID]: Restarted /usr/sbin/snmpd[New_PID], count=X

  • After enabling the generation of core dump files (per sk92764), core dump files are generated for SNMPD process in /var/log/dump/usermode/.

  • SNMPD core dump files contain the following stack:

Core was generated by `/usr/sbin/snmpd -f'.
Program terminated with signal 8, Arithmetic exception.
