'confd' process consumes the CPU at 100% during hardware sensors data reading
Symptoms
  • Output of 'top' command shows that 'confd' process consumes the CPU at 100%.

  • /var/log/messages file repeatedly shows:

    xpand[PID]: sensor reading is empty 
    xpand[PID]: too many files opened
    
Cause

'confd' process reached the limit of file descriptors during hardware sensors data reading (e.g., Hardware SNMP Traps were configured). As a result, it consumes the CPU at 100%.
